For instructors
Hands-on accounting practice your students can start today
Every exercise runs in the browser and is checked by code the moment a student submits it. New numbers every time, so practice never runs out and answers can't be copied from a classmate.

What your students get
- Practice that checks itself. Spreadsheet tasks run in a real formula engine and are graded on the values they produce. Journal entries, statements and reconciliations are generated from rules, so the right answer is known for certain. Nothing is graded by opinion, a person or an AI.
- Teaching before testing. Each lesson opens with the idea in plain words and a worked example on real numbers. Hints go from gentle to specific, and "Walk me through it" takes a stuck student through their own version one step at a time, instead of sending them off to search for the answer.
- Feedback on the actual mistake. When an answer matches a common mistake (debits and credits reversed, a deposit in transit subtracted, a range that stops a row short), the feedback names it.
- Unlimited versions. "New numbers" gives the same task with a different company and different amounts. A student is fluent in an exercise after solving two versions on the first try, without hints.
Students can try 3 exercises free with no sign-up; a plan opens the rest.
What you get
- Topic maps. The Principles of Accounting map groups the bookkeeping and payroll lessons under the topics a first financial accounting course covers, in the usual order. The MO-220 practice map lists the Excel for Accounting lessons objective by objective. Topic names are generic and not tied to any textbook.
- Teaching notes for every lesson. What students do, about how long it takes, the mistakes the exercises catch, a way to demo it in class and what to assign.
- Printable worksheets. Any exercise as a paper worksheet, and a class set where each copy has different numbers. Approved instructors can print the answer key with them.
Request instructor access
Answer keys are for instructors only, so we check each request by hand. Tell us where you teach and, if you can, link a page that shows it, such as a staff or course page. We usually reply within two working days.
Sign in or create a free account first, then come back to this page to send the request.
Request received. We check each one by hand and will email you when it's approved.
You're an approved instructor. Worksheets now offer the answer key: open any worksheet from the maps and choose "Include the answer key".
We couldn't confirm your teaching role from the request. Reply to our email, send us a request or write to hello@accountingexercises.com, and we'll take another look.

Using it with a class
- Pick the lessons for the week from a map, and read their teaching notes.
- In class, open a lesson's free exercise, show Learn it, and solve one version together.
- Assign the lesson: each exercise solved, and ideally fluent. Students can show you their Progress page.
- For a quiz, print a class set of worksheets with different numbers on each copy, and mark them with the answer key.
Class codes, where you see every student's progress in one place, are planned.
Questions
Is it free for instructors?
Yes. Instructor access, the maps, teaching notes, worksheets and answer keys are free. If you link to us from your course page or resource list, it helps other students find practice that checks itself.
Does it follow my textbook?
The maps use the generic topics of a first financial accounting course, so they fit most textbooks. Nothing is copied from any textbook or exam, and every problem is written from scratch and generated with new numbers.
Is this official MO-220 material?
No. It is MO-220 practice, mapped to the public exam objectives. Accounting Exercises is not affiliated with Microsoft or Certiport.
Do the payroll lessons teach current tax rules?
No. Payroll exercises use clearly labelled example rates and tables to practice the calculations and entries, not current tax law. They are not tax advice.
Can students use it on phones?
Yes. The spreadsheet and the forms work by touch, and tips are worded for both touch and keyboard. A laptop is more comfortable for the longer spreadsheet tasks.
